The dome has been exposed to wind, weather, heat (+38 C), and cold (-22 C) for almost 20 years. During all that time, neither snow nor rain entered the interior. The outer surface is intact in every part and still shines. Originally, the shutter and the dome in azimuth were moved by hand or via IR push-button. After the installation of a power rail, the electric shutter drive, and the azimuth barcode readers, the dome developed its full potential for autonomous or remote-controlled operation.
