Sternwarte Urnäsch

The images listed here show, on the one hand, the dome installation in 2006, and on the other hand the current situation of the dome and our special pyramid construction. Since such an old wooden house does not have stable floors, it was necessary to install suspended floors on all levels.

During the guided tours in our observatory, we always make a virtual journey through the universe with the help of a PowerPoint presentation and by answering the many spontaneous questions. In doing so, we try to make the unimaginable dimensions and time spans understandable with the help of models. For example, that in the Orion Nebula, 50 to 100 times more water is formed per day than all the oceans of the Earth contain in water. Such statements almost always lead to very interesting discussions and lively philosophizing. This complements visual observation and is actually highly appreciated by our visitors.

The following instruments are in use in our dome:

  • Takahashi 60 mm aperture, 360 mm focal length
  • Takahashi 104 mm aperture, 840 mm focal length
  • Intes Maksutov 150 mm aperture, 1500 mm focal length, all three instruments mounted in parallel
  • for extending the focal length: Baader FFC
  • various filters

Mount: CGE Pro on a 9.5 m high wooden pyramid with three suspended floors
