The following original images from 1996 show the installation of two 3.2 meter domes for the University of San Juan in the Argentine Cordilleras, at an altitude of 2500 m above sea level, where extreme weather situations such as wind and snow are to be expected.

More than 20 years later, in 2019, both domes are still being used regularly. One of the domes houses the Carl Zeiss HASTA telescope (H-Alpha Solar Telescope of Argentina), with which, among other things, two Moreton waves were observed. In addition, several scientific papers were published with the aid of the HASTA data. In the meantime, an infrared camera is also operating in connection with the H-alpha telescope. Images and much more information about HASTA can be found on the HASTA home page.
The second dome houses a solar coronagraph.

Unfortunately, the total solar eclipse over Chile (July 2, 2019) could not be seen from the dome site in El Leoncito. However, an “eclipse workshop” took place in the nearby city of San Juan, which is reported on in detail on the IAFE website. The animation shown on the right, the “logo” of the workshop, shows our domes at the present time.
