Max-Planck-Institut – MPA und MPE

A 4.5M Baader AllSky dome was installed on the roof of the administration building of the Max Planck Institutes for Astrophysics (MPA) and Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE) in December 2012. Since then, the dome has performed its service without complaint; maintenance and repairs were not required during the first 7 years of operation.

The installed ABOT observatory control software enables autonomous as well as interactive observations, so that the stars can be observed at any time when the weather is good.

Inside the dome, a 10Micron GM4000 HPS mount with a PlaneWave CDK24 is operated on the modular Baader steel pier. An SBIG STX-16803 CCD camera is used as the imaging device. The main purpose is the training of students at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in photometry and spectroscopy.
