In 2003, the full teachers’ conference of Wilhelmsdorf Gymnasium decided on all-day supervision for the students. After an intensive planning phase in the individual subject areas, a coherent concept was submitted for approval through the political decision-making process in autumn 2003. This concept also included a school observatory.
The mayor of Wilhelmsdorf announced the approval in January 2004 — he explicitly also mentioned the school observatory.
In December 2004, two trucks with cranes arrived and delivered the metal staircase in order to provide safe access to the school roof in the future. In the same month, the circular concrete base could be installed on the flat roof. The sealing of the new roof surface was nearly completed.
In January 2005, the installation team from the company “Baader-Planetarium” arrived at the school with the observatory dome in disassembled form.
